R.J. Palacio is an American author, best known for her debut novel "Wonder". She was born Raquel Jaramillo in 1963, and she later chose the pen name R.J. Palacio. Before becoming an author, Palacio worked in graphic design and art direction, primarily in the publishing industry.
"Wonder" was inspired by an encounter that Palacio had with a child who had a facial deformity. After seeing the way people reacted to the child, Palacio was inspired to write a story that would promote kindness, empathy, and understanding. The book was initially written for children but has since been embraced by readers of all ages, touching the hearts of millions around the world.
