Vedic mathematics made easy by Dhaval Bathia

Book Summary —

Vedic Mathematics Made Easy is a guidebook aimed chiefly at students (and others with interest) who want to improve their speed, confidence, and skill in arithmetic and algebra using the techniques of Vedic Mathematics. The author presents a set of 16 sutras (or formulae), which are mental calculation techniques that allow one to perform multiplication, division, squares, square roots, cube roots, and other computations more quickly than standard methods.

The book is structured in levels: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced, which helps build the reader’s abilities step by step. Each chapter includes clear explanations, plenty of solved examples, visual aids (diagrams etc.), and practice exercises to help reinforce the methods. There are also special shortcuts and tips helpful for competitive exams (CAT, GRE, GMAT, UPSC etc.). In later editions, extra materials are added—graphs/visuals, practice problems, and even a DVD (or VCD) to simulate classroom style coaching. The goal is both to make math less intimidating and to give tools for fast calculations, often mentally.

Key takeaways include:

• The 16 sutras are designed to exploit patterns in numbers and human intuition, so learning them gives multiple ways to solve a problem rather than one rigid method.

• Even complex calculations like cube roots or multiplication of large numbers can be simplified using these techniques.

• It emphasizes mental computation, but also uses pen-and-paper methods when required; diagrams and visual effects support understanding.

• It is helpful for exam‑preparation: to improve speed, accuracy, and reduce math anxiety.
