Anant Pai, affectionately known as "Uncle Pai," was a pioneering figure in Indian educational comics. Born on September 17, 1929, in Karkala, Karnataka, he founded Amar Chitra Katha in 1967, a series that retold traditional Indian folk tales, mythological stories, and biographies of historical figures.
