The Vikings

This book is about a warrior people -the Vikings of Scandinavia. It tells how they crossed the seas in their famous longships to raid and to loot. How they pillaged monasteries and made off with treasures. How they conquered half of Britain and set up their own kings and queens in foreign lands. How they struck fear into the hearts of their enemies.

But the story is about many good things as well. It tells how they respected the law, as well as the sword; how they built up rich trading cities; and how, in the end, they settled peacefully in Britain to become part of our heritage. It is the story told in the BBC TV Schools series, ZIGZAG.
