R.K. Laxman (1921–2015) was one of India’s most celebrated cartoonists, widely known for his daily comic strip “You Said It” featuring the iconic Common Man. His career with The Times of India spanned more than five decades, during which he became a national symbol of humour, satire, and incisive political observation. With his distinctive artistic style and ability to expose the absurdities of bureaucracy, politics, and everyday life, Laxman touched millions of readers. He received numerous honours, including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Beyond his cartoons, he authored books, travelogues, and memoirs, leaving behind a legacy that continues to define Indian cartooning and social commentary.
