Narindar Uberoi Kelly was born in Lahore (then part of British India), and studied at Punjab and Lucknow Universities before earning a Ph.D. in South Asia Regional Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. As a social demographer specializing in health, education, and finance, her academic career provided deep insight into India’s cultural traditions. Her scholarly background enabled her to approach the Panchatantra not just as folklore, but as a rich repository of socio‑cultural wisdom. Currently based in Baltimore, USA, she is married to Michael Kelly and has brought together her academic and cultural scholarship to present this beautifully contextualized edition of the ancient fables
