About the Author

Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is an Indian-American author, poet, and professor, renowned for her exploration of the immigrant experience, particularly that of South Asian women. Born in Kolkata, India, in 1956, she moved to the United States in the 1970s for higher education. She earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Berkeley, and currently serves as the Betty and Gene McDavid Professor of Writing at the University of Houston .
