Howard Pyle (1853–1911) was an American illustrator and author, renowned for his contributions to children's literature. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Pyle became a prominent figure in the Brandywine School of illustration. He is best known for his vivid illustrations and storytelling in works like The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, which he both wrote and illustrated. Pyle's portrayal of Robin Hood helped shape the modern image of the legendary outlaw as a noble hero. Beyond his literary achievements, Pyle was a dedicated educator, founding the Howard Pyle School of Illustration Art, where he mentored future artists such as N.C. Wyeth. His legacy endures through his influential works and the artists he inspired.
