Book summary-
The Case of the Gilded Fly is a classic detective novel written by Edmund Crispin and first published in 1944. The story introduces the eccentric Oxford professor and amateur detective Gervase Fen. The plot begins when a group of theatre enthusiasts gathers at Oxford to stage a play written by the troubled poet Robert Warner. During rehearsals, the playwright’s unpleasant wife, Yseut Haskell, is mysteriously murdered in a locked room, creating a puzzling situation where no one seems able to have committed the crime. Professor Fen investigates the case using sharp logic, literary knowledge, and a sense of humor to untangle the clues and reveal the murderer. The novel is known for its clever plot, witty dialogue, and classic “locked-room mystery” structure, making it a notable example of Golden Age detective fiction.
