Scripting The Change is a plea for revolutionary change in India, written by a so-called ‘Maoist-terrorist’ named Anuradha Ghandy.

Through her writings, Ghandy attempts to inform readers about why she chose to become a Marxist-Leninist. She begins her book by taking readers on a guided tour of important historical movements and analysing several ideologies. As she discusses each ideology and movement, she points out the drawbacks and advantages of each one based on her own experience and observations.

One of Ghandy’s most-important contributions towards politics and her writing is her work on Dalit issues and gender causes. In her writing, she states that in order for the Dalit to succeed, they had to dismantle the caste and patriarchal system and not turn into an identity struggle. Ghandy’s writings further reveal the workings of a formidable mind who was not afraid of challenging dogma or nuances.

Scripting The Change contains three sections: Caste, Women and Miscellaneous. In the section Caste, she addresses issues such as the massacre of Dalits in Maharashtra, the Mahars becoming landowners and various movements against the caste system in Maharashtra. In the section Women, Ghandy talks about trends in the feminist movement, rape laws, the struggle of Adivasi women and International Women’s Day. In Miscellaneous, Ghandy talks about random struggle movements that occurred all over India.

Scripting The Change was published by Daanish Books in 2012 and is available in paperback format.
