Malgudi Landscapes is an anthology of novels, short stories, essays, mythological stories and travel writing by R K Narayan.
Excerpts ranging from 20 - 40 pages from almost all of Narayan's novels have been included in Malgudi Landscapes. The novels from which the extracts have been taken are mainly Swami and Friends, Bachelor of Arts, the Dark Room, the English Teacher, Mr. Sampath, the Financial Expert and Waiting for Mahatma. Even pages from the Guide, the Man Eater of Malgudi, the Vendor of Sweets, the Painter of Signs, the Tiger of Malgudi and the World of Nagaraj have been included. The book also has five of Narayan's short stories, which are A Horse and Two Goats, Selvi, Anamalai, Uncle and A Breath of Lucifer. A few of his essays like Misguided Guide, When India Was A Colony and the Reluctant Guru are also a part of this book. The two travel writings in this book are Sringeri and Westward Wound and the mythological stories include Yayati and the Wedding, which is taken from Ramayana and Bride for Five, which is from Mahabharata. There is also an article on cruelty on children written by him and lastly in this book R K Narayan tells us where Malgudi is located.
Malgudi Landscapes has been edited by S Krishnan and was published by Penguin India in 2000. The book is available in paperback.
