Anita Nair, born on 26 January 1966 in Shoranur, Kerala, is a celebrated Indian novelist writing in English, best known for deeply insightful and emotionally nuanced works like The Better Man, Ladies Coupé, Mistress, Lessons in Forgetting, and Cut Like Wound.After completing her BA in English Literature (NSS College, Kerala), she began her literary journey with a short story collection and went on to receive a fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

Nair’s writing spans a diverse range—including literary fiction, crime thrillers, poetry, essays, children's books, and historical fiction. Her work has been translated into over thirty languages, revealing her universal appeal and storytelling power.Ladies Coupé, published in 2001, was widely praised and helped solidify her reputation as a compassionate, feminist storyteller deeply attuned to women’s inner lives and societal roles.
