The well-known novelist, screenwriter and actor, Stephen King, has come up with a veritable treat in Just After Sunset, a collection of short stories that promise to thrill, tickle and terrify. Though Stephen King was prepared to start on another novel, he was asked to edit The Best American Short Stories 2007. This inspired him to publish his fifth collection of short stories, which came out in 2008.

Containing a mix of stories, most of which were previously published in various sources, this book brings together some of the best known works of Stephen King. The story titled N is the only one which was previously unpublished and contains references to the town of Castle Rock, a mainstay in many of King’s stories.

Gingerbread Girl is the story of Emily, who after the crib death of her daughter, takes up to extreme running to come to terms with her grief and her husband treats it as a psychological condition. They mutually agree to a trial separation, which somehow lands her in a position where she is fighting for her life with naught but her legs as her weapons. Stephen King also uses his penchant for the supernatural in the book as can be seen in the stories, Willa and The Things They Left Behind. Other stories in the book include The Cat From Hell, Ayana and Mute. Just After Sunset was published by Hodder in 2009 as a paperback.
