About the Author

Pervez Musharraf (1943–2023) was a Pakistani military officer and politician who served as the President of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008. Before becoming president, he was the Chief of Army Staff and came to power through a military coup in 1999 by removing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Musharraf became an internationally recognized leader after supporting the United States in the war against terrorism following the 9/11 attacks. During his rule, Pakistan experienced economic reforms and modernization efforts, but his government was also criticized for limiting democratic freedoms and increasing military influence in politics. Besides politics and military service, Musharraf gained attention as a writer through his autobiography In the Line of Fire, in which he presented his perspective on major political and military events of his time.
