About the Author

Harper Lee (1926–2016) was an American novelist best known for her Pulitzer Prize–winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird, a seminal work in American literature that addressed racial injustice in the Deep South. Born in Monroeville, Alabama, Lee studied law before turning to writing. Her friendship with writer Truman Capote influenced her literary career, and she even assisted him in researching In Cold Blood.
