About the Author

Mary Shelley was a pioneering English writer best known for creating Frankenstein, often considered one of the first science fiction novels. Born in 1797 to political philosopher William Godwin and feminist writer Mary Wollstonecraft, she was exposed early to radical ideas and literature. She began writing Frankenstein at the age of 18, and the novel was published in 1818. Shelley’s works often reflect themes of scientific curiosity, human emotion, and social responsibility. Despite facing personal tragedies throughout her life, she continued writing novels, travelogues, and biographies.
