About the Author: 

Mary Shelley (1797–1851) was an English novelist best known for writing Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, which she penned at just 18 years old. The daughter of political philosopher William Godwin and feminist writer Mary Wollstonecraft, Shelley was deeply influenced by intellectual and literary thought from a young age. Her life was marked by personal tragedy, including the loss of her husband, the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, and several of their children. Despite these hardships, she continued to write novels, essays, and travelogues. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is widely regarded as a pioneering work in both Gothic and science fiction literature, and her contributions have had a lasting impact on discussions about science, ethics, and human identity.
