About The Author:

Mimi Thebo is an American-born, Cajun‑heritage writer now based in South West England. She grew up in Kansas before moving to the UK in the early 1990s, where she built a career as a writer, academic, and creative‑writing lecturer.After earning a Master’s in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University and a PhD from the University of the West of England, Bristol, she became a Reader in Creative Writing at the University of Bristol (formerly lecturing at Bath Spa).Her children’s and teen novels—such as Dreaming the Bear, Coyote Summer, and Hospital High—tackle themes of trauma recovery, family bonds, identity, and our connection to the natural world. Dreaming the Bear was long‑listed for the Carnegie Medal and selected by BookTrust as a “future classic,” and her earlier novel Wipe Out was made into a BAFTA‑winning BBC adaptation.Drawing Together, one of Thebo’s books for early readers, features her accessible, empathic storytelling style—using gentle humour and fantasy to explore marginalisation and belonging.
