Book Summary:
"Branded in History: Fresh Marketing Lessons From Vintage Brands" is a book by Ramya Ramamurthy that delves into the origins and marketing strategies of iconic brands in colonial India. The book examines how both indigenous and foreign brands were produced, distributed, and marketed between 1847 and 1947, a period when branding was in its nascent stages.
Ramya Ramamurthy explores the history of various brands such as Lux soaps, Jabakusum hair oil, Woodward's Gripe Water, Atlas Cycles, Dalda, and Mafatlal Textiles. She analyzes how these brands capitalized on emerging trends and consumer needs to establish themselves over decades. The book offers insights into the successes and failures of early brands in the subcontinent, providing valuable marketing lessons from a bygone era.
