Bonds of Destiny: The Legacy traces a deeply personal and intergenerational story of loyalty, sacrifice, and reconciliation. Set in the 1940s, the narrative centers on Bhushan, an officer in the British Indian Army, and his loyal attendant (or “ardali”), Shingara Singh. Shingara’s unwavering devotion to Bhushan leads him into a dire situation: he is falsely accused of a crime he did not commit and sentenced to death. Years later, Bhushan revisits Shingara’s village and forges a meaningful bond with Shingara’s family—a bond that transcends the tragedy of the past. Eventually, in a later generation, the author Rajesh, who is Bhushan’s son, returns to Punjab to uncover the long-buried secret behind the crime and to honor the legacy of friendship and loyalty that shaped both families.

About the Author

Rajesh Varma is a business professional based in the United States, with a background in working for Fortune 100 companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, PepsiCo, Walt Disney, and Nestlé. He holds a master’s degree in Economics and International Business from India and completed his MBA after migrating to the U.S. in 1984. He is married and lives in Burbank, California, with his wife Arti (an elementary school teacher) and their two children. Bonds of Destiny is his first book, and it grew out of stories his father told him, which Rajesh later researched, compiled, and shaped into a moving family-memoir style narrative.
