About the Author –

Born René Lodge Brabazon Raymond in London in 1906, James Hadley Chase became one of the most prolific and best-selling thriller writers of the 20th century, authoring nearly 90 novels. Many of his stories are set in the U.S., despite him having never lived there—he relied on maps and a slang dictionary to craft authentic American backdrops, inspired by gangster culture of the Great Depression era. During World War II, he served as a Royal Air Force Squadron Leader and edited the RAF Journal . His debut novel, No Orchids for Miss Blandish (1939), earned him widespread acclaim and solidified his reputation for fast‑paced, hardboiled crime fiction filled with moral complexity. Throughout his career, Chase's works were widely translated and frequently adapted into films, cementing his legacy as a titan of suspense and intrigue.
