About the author

Jeffrey Archer is an English author and former politician, born on April 15, 1940, in London. He gained prominence as a Member of Parliament for Louth from 1969 to 1974. Following a financial scandal that left him nearly bankrupt, Archer turned to writing and achieved international success with his 1979 novel Kane and Abel, which sold over 34 million copies worldwide. His literary works have been translated into 33 languages, with total sales exceeding 320 million copies.

Archer's political career continued as he served as the deputy chairman of the Conservative Party from 1985 to 1986. However, his political trajectory was marred by a 2001 conviction for perjury and perverting the course of justice, leading to a four-year prison sentence. He was released in 2003 and resumed his writing career. In 1992, he was made a life peer in the House of Lords, where he remained until his retirement in 2024, ahead of expected reforms to the chamber.
