About the Author — 

Lucius Annaeus Seneca (c. 4 BCE – 65 CE) was a Roman statesman, dramatist, and one of the foremost Stoic philosophers of antiquity. Born in Cordoba (modern-day Spain) and raised in Rome, he became a tutor and later an advisor to Emperor Nero, though he eventually fell out of favor and was ordered to die. Much of Seneca’s legacy comes from his philosophical letters and essays, which combine moral seriousness with psychological insight. He wrote extensively on ethics, virtue, anger, grief, and the art of living—emphasizing that true freedom comes from mastering oneself, not external circumstances.
