Gandhari, an important character of the great epic, The Mahabharata, was the daughter of King Subala and the Princess of Gandhar, the region presently in Afghanistan. She later married King Dhritarashtra. Realizing that her husband was born blind, she deprived herself from all the pleasures that her husband couldn't enjoy and lived her life blindfolded. Though the mother of the Kauravas, the ‘Evil' in the Mahabharata, she always advised Duryodhana, the eldest Kaurava to make peace with the Pandavas.
