Book Summary
This novel unfolds as a poignant and tragic romance set against the university backdrop, exploring themes of innocence, activism, and societal injustice. Rupali, a bright, idealistic small-town girl, enters Delhi University determined to focus on her studies. On her very first day, she symbolically plants a tulsi sapling on campus—an emblem of her hopes and personal growth. Opposite her is Arjun, a charismatic Delhi youth deeply involved in campus politics.
Their lives converge amid a scandal on campus. Initially wary of each other, they soon unite to fight for justice related to a serious wrongdoing—Rupali stands up against evil, and Arjun supports her mission. From this shared struggle blossoms a tender love, and Arjun reassures her with the heartfelt words: “Your dreams are mine now.”
Yet, their budding romance and idealism invite a brutal reprisals. A tragic, real‑life‑inspired incident shatters their world, leaving a haunting and emotional impact. The book doesn’t shy away from portraying the pervasive evils in society—from sexual violence and corruption to caste discrimination—and challenges the reader to confront uncomfortable truths.
