Book Summary:
Five Run Away Together (1944) is the third book in Enid Blyton’s Famous Five series. In this adventure, Julian, Dick, Anne, George (Georgina), and Timmy the dog are staying at Kirrin Cottage when Aunt Fanny falls ill and must go to a distant hospital. The children are left under the care of Mrs. Stick, her husband, and their unpleasant son, Edgar. The Sticks' mistreatment leads the children to run away to Kirrin Island. There, they discover signs of other people on the island and suspect smuggling activities. The discovery of a young girl's toys and clothes point to something more sinister going on and they then discover the Sticks have imprisoned a young girl, Jennifer Armstrong, on the island and are holding her for ransom. The children rescue Jennifer and bring her to the police, leading to the Sticks' arrest. Jennifer's father allows her to spend a week with her new friends on Kirrin Island

This is the third book in the series.
The five have already had two very thrilling adventures.
In the first one they decipher an ancient map and find a huge stash of gold ignots.
In the second they discover a secret passage, outwit their rogue tutor and save U Quentin's precious notes.
In this book they're once again at Kirrin Cottage for the holidays. But something's not quite right.
Their cook Joanna is away and Mrs Stick, her son and their dog are ensconsed in the kitchen.
Aunt Fanny is not her usual self, and one morning the Five come back from their walk to find that A Fanny has been rushed to hospital and U Quentin's gone with her.
The children are completely at the mercy of Mrs Stick.
Her husband moves in and the children are miserable, with Julian having to put on his most grown up airs to get decent food for the Five
He always takes Timmy with him to ensure that he will be safe as Mr Stick is quite a nasty rogue
The Sticks respond by trying to poison Timmy and George is so upset that she tries to run away with Timmy.
Julian convinces her that the best course of action is for all of them to run away together
So they move to a hidden cave in Kirrin Island, and have a marvellous time, until the Sticks come to stay on the island too.
Their inexplicable behaviour alerts the Five and soon the cauldron is bubbling with mystery, danger, curious happenings, strange discoveries and a daring rescue.
The book keeps the reader enthralled with the scenic views, super delicious picnic meals, Annes housekeeping the courage and ingenuity of George and Dick, Timmy's exceptional contribution to the resolution and Julian's calm, good natured leadership.
There's plenty of humour added to the mix....Juliens wit and the tricks they play on the Sticks to get them out of the way while the Five solve the mystery
