Star Trek is the most popular science fiction series ever created. The original series broadcasted in the 1960s spqwned seven feature movies-an eighth called Star Trek First Contact just released- and three series- The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager. The success is largly due to the regorous manner Gene Roddenberry and his writers consciously drew on classical literary stories for their inspiration.
