About the Author

Khaled Hosseini, the acclaimed author of And the Mountains Echoed, was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965. His father served as a diplomat, and his mother was a high school teacher. In 1976, the family moved to Paris, but due to political upheaval in Afghanistan, they sought asylum in the United States in 1980, settling in San Jose, California. Hosseini earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Santa Clara University in 1988 and a medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, in 1993. He practiced medicine as an internist until 2004, when he transitioned to writing full-time .
