Book Summary:
A Place Called Here is a contemporary novel by Irish author Cecelia Ahern, first published in 2006. The story follows Sandy Shortt, a woman obsessed with finding lost things ever since her childhood classmate, Jenny-May Butler, disappeared without a trace. This obsession leads Sandy to leave her job with the Garda (Irish police) and establish a missing persons agency. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she herself goes missing while investigating the case of Jack Ruttle's brother, Donal, who vanished a year earlier. Sandy finds herself in a peculiar place called "Here," a world where all lost things—and people—end up. As Sandy navigates this strange new reality, she must confront her own fears and desires, while Jack embarks on a journey to find her, uncovering more about Sandy's past and his own in the process.
Cecelia Ahern is an Irish novelist born on September 30, 1981, in Dublin, Ireland. She is the daughter of former Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. Since then, she has authored numerous novels, including Where Rainbows End, If You Could See Me Now, and Flawed. Her works often explore themes of love, loss, and the complexities of human relationships. Ahern's books have been translated into over 40 languages, and she has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide. In addition to her writing, she co-created and produced the ABC comedy series Samantha Who?, starring Christina Applegate. Ahern resides in Dublin with her family.
