Elisabetta Dami is an Italian children's author born in Milan in 1958. She began her career in publishing at the age of 13 as a proofreader for her father's publishing house, Dami Editore. At 19, she started writing her own stories. Her adventurous spirit led her to earn pilot and parachutist licenses by age 20, and at 23, she traveled around the world solo. She has also participated in a Sahara rally, crossed Africa in an off-road vehicle, and run marathons, including three New York City marathons. In 1990, after discovering she could not have children, Dami began volunteering at a children's hospital. Inspired by this experience, she created the character of Geronimo Stilton—a clumsy, adventurous mouse journalist. The series became a publishing sensation in Italy and internationally, with over 180 million copies sold worldwide. Dami divides her time between Italy and Sedona, Arizona, and is involved in various philanthropic activities, including supporting sick, orphaned, and abandoned children. She founded the Geronimo Stilton Foundation, which focuses on health and education projects for children around the world. She also serves as a National WWF Councilor and is involved in various environmental conservation projects.
