He was in the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank for two years and then got a job on the 'By the Way'

column of the old Globe. His first stories were school stories written for The Captain, in one of which Psmith made his first appearance. He paid a visit to America in 1904, and another in 1909 when he sold two short stories for $300 apiece, and decided to remain there. Eventually he sold a serial to the Saturday Evening Post, which was the goal of all young authors then, and for the next twenty- five years almost all his books first appeared in this paper. In 1906 he wrote some lyrics to music by Jerome Kern, and some years later he formed a partnership with him and Guy Bolton, which resulted in a number of shows, including their very successful Oh Boy. Guy Bolton and he then worked with a number of other composers. and also wrote straight plays together. Mr Wodehouse has worked at plays with George Grossmith and lan Hay, and made some adaptations, but he says he has never been able to write a successful play by himself. He has written over sixty novels, is an Honorary D.Litt. of Oxford University, and has been happily married for thirty-eight years.
